ACUPUNCTURE

More than 12 million Americans are using acupuncture therapy for pain relief.

Acupuncture is a branch Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that focuses on utilizing the body's natural energies to restore health. Early Chinese physicians described energy pathways (meridians) that course just below the surface of the skin. These meridians circulate "Qi," (pronounced 'chee') or vital life energy.

Injury, exposure to the elements, and stress can cause blockages of this “Qi” flow, resulting in pain, swelling, and other symptoms. By stimulating key acupuncture points, these blockages can be relieved and health restored.

Point stimulation is typically accomplished with a very thin needle, but laser and electric stimulation can also be used. The needles are very thin and are inserted so quickly that it is often entirely painless. However, there may be a momentary pinch, similar to getting a mosquito bite.

Needling the acupuncture points also stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body's own internal regulating system.

The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body's natural healing abilities, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being.

Acupuncture Therapy can treat:

  • Chronic pain in the neck and back
  • Behavioral problems
  • Migraines and headaches
